At an Aberdeen family photo shoot, a small girl in pink grins straight at the camera while her mum and dad lean in to kiss her cheeks. The background is blue sky.
Photos and Fun for Slightly Feral Families
A young girl in red spotted sundress twirls on a windy day at Aberdeen Beach; her long hair is blowing around her. The colours of the photo are soft and nostalgic, like film.
Does your family have too much energy for static shots?
Reckon your kid is too shy to smile? Or perhaps you think that YOU are?
Then my Aberdeen family photo shoots are for you.
Largely child-led (even when the kids are legal adults), a session with me involves running free, playing games and great big showers of love.
I encourage you to embrace the chaos. I believe trees are for climbing, waves are for jumping and children are for twirling (and parents are for dancing with, too).
Focus on being silly and joyful and smitten with each other, safe in the knowledge that I am there, camera in hand, ready to capture every bit of fun.
Black and white image of a mother on a bench, cradling her baby and leaning over to kiss her older daughter's head. The review reads: This was our second shoot with Sarah and she has always captured exactly what we are looking for and I love our photos so much. As someone who generally doesn’t like getting their picture taken, Sarah makes everything so relaxed and natural you don’t even notice her snapping away on the camera. We will certainly be going back for more photos in the future.
When can we have our Aberdeen photo shoot?
For families with really little kids - those who aren't ruled by school holiday dates! - I always recommend a weekday. All the best locations will be quieter and calmer and we can really take our time.
For those with slightly older kids, never fear! Sundays are also awesome.
Beach sessions are almost always held within two hours of low tide (you can check tide times here).
That's great, but what does a Family photo shoot cost?
A sunny day for an Aberdeen family photo shoot, as a four year girl in a blue dress and tights with strawberries on the knees, climbs across the rocks. She is backlit by the sun.
My pricing is simple: everything is included.

FAQs About Family Photo Sessions
I'm Worried My Children Won't Listen to Instructions
I promise you: they don't need to.
Almost all parents tell me they're worried their child(ren) will either be very shy or run absolutely wild and, honestly, neither of these things is a problem. I start most photo sessions by playing and chatting and giving everyone time to get used to me and to my camera, and it's only when the kids are at ease that I start taking lots of pictures.
Because my sessions are child-led and all about your genuine personalities, a shy child snuggling into a parent's shoulder or a wild child splashing in the sea can only be a good thing!
A lot of the people I work with are ASN, and there is space on your questionnaire for you to tell me about anything which it would be helpful for me to avoid or include.
What is the payment structure?
For sessions booked more than six weeks in advance, a 25% deposit secures your date with the remainder due two weeks before your session. For photo shoots arranged with less than six weeks' notice, the full payment is required at the time of booking. The fee covers both your photo shoot and all your digital images; there are no additional fees to receive your digital images.
How Many Pictures Will We Receive?
For an hour session, an absolute minimum of thirty (but I've never delivered so few). The more you play, the more pictures will come out of it.
Will You Do Group Shots / Pose Us for Our Pictures?
I will make sure I get some photos of you all together. These are usually big group hugs, sometimes family games, and sometimes you having a quiet moment, resting on a bench together. Depending on your particular family, there may also be smaller groups and individuals - I work with the people in front of me and how they interact.
My main guidance is: the more you naturally interact with each other, the better. But, particularly near the start when people are still feeling camera shy, I will give you as many prompts as you need to put you all at ease and get relaxed and happy images.
Can We include Adult Children / Grandparents?
Of course! Your family is your family! Whoever is important is included.
The standard price is for up to six people, but you can add on as many as you like for an additional £30 per head (babies under one go free).
Are You Inclusive?
I'm certainly trying to be! If you don't yet see yourselves represented on my website, please know that it's not because I don't want you there - it's simply that, either, I haven't had the opportunity to take those photos, or the families I have worked with have chosen to keep their pictures private. All families are welcome here, regardless of its shape, size, ethnicity, access needs and so on.
Black and white photo of a very young boy beaming as he runs into his mother's outstretched arms. The overlaid text reads: "I love Sarah's creative mind and her approach. She catches what you may think are the smallest of moments and interactions which turn out to be the best, and they create wonderful memories in the form of photographs. She is incredibly patient and listens and watches for every move and every opportunity, and allows you the time and space you need to feel comfortable - which wasn't long for us! She made it feel very natural and our two young children especially enjoyed the experience and had such fun with Sarah, and she even gave them the opportunity to take photos of my husband and I! She kept them laughing and smiling throughout, and made it such an enjoyable experience - she has some amount of energy! And with everything combined, she captured and created the most stunning and beautiful photographs of us as a family and us as a couple, and I cannot praise her talent and her approach enough - she is a fantastic photographer with a great eye for the surroundings and details, and is such a lovely person to work with."
